Phew! It has been quite a long holiday for me from photography. I really needed the time away to remind myself why I got into it. At the end I realised that I do photography, because I love it. Creating images is something I find so very up-lifting and relaxing. Even more so when you realise you have just created something that really moves me. Hopefully, the audience will feel the same way.
I still haven't blown the dust off the camera, instead I'm just going through my archive for anything worth posting. In time, I'll be out shooting again. This shot was taken of a close friend on a not too recent trip to Edinburgh. In many ways it captures a lot of what I know about him: handsome, sly but very jovial person. The sort you're comfortable knowing he has your back covered.
The Canon 10D has served me very well but particularly with images like the above, it really gets pushed beyond its limits. At 6MP and ISO400 at best, I'd seriously started looking at the Canon 5D, but the thought of splashing out on new lens gave me cold chills! I wasn't impressed with the 20D, 30D or even 40D offerings - they just didn't address the megapixel and noise issues well enough for my liking. In comes the Canon 50D with 15MP and something like ISO12600! Though realistically I recall that just means that ISO800 and ISO1600 will produce very usable images. So I just might upgrade to the 50D eventually.
